After originally creating this world I came from the direction of what is now the Half-way House, a place created out of a huge long chunk error wall. Keep in mind, during Alpha, this region was very different as the world accidently got wiped - twice. Once via a power cut and the other - I'm not sure. Suffice to say it had to be restored twice by the .dat file, so the region would regenerate differently back then. Back in the day there were trees and open lava pool on the surface so the trees in that area would constantly be alight. When I did die I would collect pig meat from the foolish swines that wandered in it's flames and collected skeleton bones and arrows. I would set up a graveyard here originally as I died so much.
With the world regenerating, I can't even tell where that location is these days, as I never used co-ordinated and F3 back then.
So I remember coming over what became the icy coast, always over a couple of mountains and that's where I found THE mountain. From the back it had water coming out of a one block space (Like you seen in caves sometimes) and immediatly got the idea to build a window-less hole in the mountain and have a room inside with the waterfall widened (Which I would do) falling over the window hole. A water-window if you will. Round the front due to alpha generation was a hollow fronted mountain with lava running down the front. Abovie it, a ledge of land with a small hole knook, then the rest of the top of the mountain. I got my second idea, standing back I thought if I made a level fall half-way up the hollow of the mountain behind the lava fall; I could have a nice home there with a bay window by the lava. Up top, that small nook I would hollow further back inside to the outside of the mountain for a bedroom.
This is a month later, I also had dug a trnch so the water from the waterfall went back into the ocean.
With these 2 reasons I had an idea to build a home -in-a-mountain. After widening the waterfall and digging out a sqyare room behind the newly made window, I layed a basic cobble floor halfway up the front of the hollow mountain behind the lava fall. I need a corridor inside to link the two rooms but couldn't decide where it should be due to the solid mountain in between. So of course I went to the top of the mountain and did what any self-respecting person would do and dug straight down. I found gold ore on the way down but had no iron pick to get it so I just kept going, until there was no more floow - only a drop.
A drop straight into a lava pool. I had dug too far down. Lost everything I had. I also remember specifically returning to said top of mountain and sprialling down around the one block chute with a pick to try and recover anything.
