So this is my very first saved world I kept, and still play on. Before this world I was on another I didn't keep where I was on top of a very high mountain and being Alpha and me being a n00b I didn't know how to get across to the neighboring mountain ledge. It wasn't very far across but I knew i couldn't jump it that high up and not die. So I made a platform across either in dirt or wood to get across, and this gave me the idea for my next world...
The Idea:
The idea was to begin a world and make a home on top of a mountain, then built a bridge across to the next mountain, a "Sky-bridge" build another home on top of the next mountain, again make another sky bridge to the next mountain tome, make a home and so on.
Beginnings: The N00b bit.
In this bit we look at the original over-world from when I started in Alpha V1.1.2_01, I have kept these n00b buildings and "Sky-bridges" exactly as they were to remind myself what a beginner I was to Minecraft back the. They remain unchanged, preserved in prosperity.
I spawned on a beach shore and quickly made my way to the nearest large mountain I could find, in time,; I would eventually build a dirt tunnel from this shore to the mountain for safe passage at night from mobs. The first mountain was good, it had a secondary mountain area nearby, perfect for the "Sky-bridge" and in between them was this huge hole in the ground at ground level. It was the size of a huge crater, and unlike most caves that gradually go down - it just went straight down! very, very far down. This mine (part b which would become an underground home from 2011 onwards) was the original source for all my ores and mining.

So for the first Minecraft day I built a temporary fort on the first mountain, although in time it would become anything but temporary. I built it on the easiest resource I could get my hands on - cobblestone, but back then I never did things like expanding the land etc. I just built it on the land exactly as it was, 4 cobble walls, very boring, very square but as it was turning dark at least somewhere to sleep. The next day I built a sky bridge to the next mountain top, this was out of plain wood and only two blocks wide, I died many times trying to do it - not having grasped the shift key yet. When I built it I just thought about getting across, no consideration for safety, lighting the thing or anything, the columns that would come after for the lighting (Torches) were very much an after thought.
Once on the other side I began building my first proper home, although by my standards now it was terrible, literally terrible. Again I never terraformed, I just built on the land, a great big log wooden hut with a dirt roof. Sky-lights would come later. No furniture to speak off, just a horrid cobble floor and a very long empty hut with a poorly made stove. (Stone around a furnace.) I built a cobble walkway from the bridge to it with a path around the side with flowers, the back of the hut would be right on the mountain edge. I still remember trying to go round there and carefully add dirt to what was there so I could go round.
After building this rambshackle home, I began building the next sky-bridge to the next mountain. This would be much tougher however as the next mountain was quite a distance away, far more than the current one. The original idea was to build it out of glass, but knowing torches wouldn't attach to glass I knew I would have no way of lighting the thing. It also never occurred to me at the time to add columns or such in between to add torches to. So I build it out of what I had most of - cobblestone.
You can just see in the distance the next mountain and how far away it was. In fact this sky-bridge ended up being three times longer than the first one which snaked and turned also with a Fort-like feel to it. I died many times making this sky-bridge as I still hadn't got used to holding shift to stop me going over, but I did find a way around it - going to the very edge on one side and placing the next block down on the side of the opposite block ahead of me. I also remember the fun amount of torches and coal I needed to lit the thing up! Eventually I would get to the other side and decided to use this mountain as a "new" fort:
Again in hindsight in 2013, what I build back then in 2010 wasn't very good. I didn't expand the land or alter it in anyway I just built in the mountain - exactly as it was. Te result was not a very big fort with thin narrow 2 wide corridors all the way round as there was a center tower inside that rose up high, again that also was very narrow inside, if I had my time again I would do it so very differently.
