So what have you been up to in your survival worlds?
In my main world (World #2) I am thrusting ahead with the great face-lift of the apartment block near my home. Work was paused recently as I upgraded it to 1.6.2 and went in search of horses!
Being an old Alpha world, I had to go over 5000 Minecraft miles to find a new chunk for them to spawn, taking with me limited tools, gold ingots for a golden apple and a saddle. Eventually I found an isolated little island with several horses and about a dozen donkeys! I have named it Donkey Island! Unfortunately, there was not one tree on the island! Why oh why did I not think to bring an oak sapling with me! In a flat little area between mountains (About a mountain or so away from Donkey island), I set up a temporary base inside one of the mountains, I used a sapling from a tree from another island near Donkey island to plant like mad in mine base are to get a tree that would give me an apple. The first new attempts to get a horse did not go well. The first time I tried to ride back home and got stuck in trees at night, ambushed by skellies who shot and killed my horse! The second time is when I had to lead my 2nd horse through the Nether.. As horses can't travel in deep water, I decided the only way to get him home was to go through a portal.. So I sealed me and my horse in the temp. mountain home, and left him up top whilst I dug a long stair case down to go mining. Eventually I found lava and made water and lava buckets to create a portal the quick way, but got bored doing it as the lava was all the way down the bottom and the portal I was creating was at the top near horsey. I didn't create it at the bottom due to trying to get horsey down there.
In the end I just mined the obsidian and created the portal up top. I couldn't ride him through so I had to push him through! My portal in the Nether spawned right in a huge patch of slow sand and after making my way to the surface I built another portal, hoping it would take me near my home. Just as I was about to light it a Ghast attacked! I fought and killed it but didn't see what happened to my horse, either the Ghast got him or he fell in a lava pool near the area. I lit the portal in despair and went back through the cave portal to my base to get a third horse. This time I got lucky but when going through the portal in the Nether, I came out in the over-world on top of a very high jungle tree! The journey had took me 5000+ Minecraft miles, the overworld portal came out 3000+ Minecraft miles away, a bit nearer - but still a long way to go! Very carefully I had to get to the base of the jungle biome on my horse! I got him home though, or near enough, on an ice patch, he fell through and I was besieged by mobs and was killed. I made my way back and just got to my stuff, but I saw horse armor on the ice... I really thought they had killed him and was about to rage-quit, after all that effort...
Thankfully it was the spare iron horse armor I had found in the Nether fortress, horsey was wearing one, that was a spare. I really thought they had killed him though or he'd drowned - if so I would've rage-quit and maybe cried a little after all that! I got him home though where he's safely tied up to a street light. I've also used him to go back to the new chunk for diamonds after a creeper blew me up near the apartments and I lost all my diamond tools except the axe, my iron ingots, coal and most of the important stuff I had on me. Was successful in getting new diamond equipment from the strip-mine, a few emeralds and more Lapis.
